Cuisine best food magazine in the world

Press Release: 23 October 2007

Cuisine best food magazine in the world

Cuisine magazine has been judged the best food magazine in the world at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards.

The awards, considered to be the Oscars of the food world, were announced at a gala presentation in Adelaide, South Australia, on Saturday night (20 October), when “Gold Ladles” were presented to the winners.

Cuisine beat out prestigious international magazines Gourmet Traveller, Vogue Entertaining & Travel, Donna Hay, Saveur, and Gastronomica to win the Best Food Magazine award.

Cuisine food editor Lauraine Jacobs says she was thrilled to accept the award for Cuisine, which recognised it as a world-class publication.

“These awards attract the crème de la crème of international food writers, publishers and presenters,” says Jacobs. “Other award winners include the likes of Nigella Lawson and Rick Stein - which shows how impressive the list of award entrants was.”

Cuisine was the only New Zealand food magazine to be recognised in the awards.

Fairfax Magazines general manager Lynley Belton says the award shows just how high the standard of food publishing is in New Zealand. She also points out that Cuisine’s wine judge and writer Ralph Kyte-Powell received the Best Drink Guide Book Golden Ladle for The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2007, which he co-edited.

“Cuisine has long been the best food magazine in New Zealand,” she says, “and now it’s also recognised as the best food magazine in the world. The world food magazine market is fiercely competitive and to be recognised on a world stage is very prestigious indeed.”
