World's First Real Life Video Game Unveiled At Air Games

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand (December 28, 2007) - Television sports history was made today at the New Zealand Air Games when the world's first real live video games was trialled by Air Sports Live and leading aerobatic pilot, Jurgis Kairys.

Sky Challenge allows competitive aerobatic pilots to fly through a virtual obstacle course that they see on specially designed LCD screens in their cockpits. The viewing public, whether on the airfield, TV or Internet see the animations on screen and can watch the pilots negotiating the technical course, flying head to head.

Peter Newport of Air Sports Live, said it was an exciting moment to see hundreds of hours of software development and technical trials come to fruition.

"It was so exciting to see the first real live video game become a reality. The pilots successfully flew through a series of virtual objects and it was great to see the crowd watching this piece of TV sports history unfold in front of them. We'll now be working to refine the system to make it ready for use all over the world, both as a sports event and a pilot training system."
