Dynamic drawing at Artstation

Take a fresh look at drawing at Artstation’s latest exhibition Overdrawn, from 2 to 17 April.

This contemporary drawing exhibition highlights the re-emergence of drawing as an eclectic and contemporary art practice through the work of painters, photographers, sculptors and designers.

While the artists’ individual approaches towards art differ, they all share active drawing practices.

“The term overdrawn stresses the idea of over-doing something or exaggerating it as a means of describing a story or an idea,” says artist and co-curator Mandy Thomsett-Taylor.

“To be overdrawn or in the red is a fact of life for many artists.”

Overdrawn features artists at various stages of their career and includes many well-known New Zealand artists alongside lesser-known emerging artists. The range of artists, processes and approaches reveals drawing as a dynamic and lively method of making art.

Overdrawn is showing from 2 to17 April and opens on Tuesday, 1 April from 5 to 7pm.

Auckland City Council’s community visual arts facility is located in the old police barracks at 1 Ponsonby Road, Newton. It is easy to get to by bus, The Link bus stops right outside.
