Kiwis Say It With Flowers For Mother's Day
 
It appears that Mums around the country were showered with flowers this Mother’s Day, as Paymark figures show transactions at florists sat at more than 3.5 times the normal volume in the three days leading up to and including Mother’s Day on Sunday 11 May.

From Friday to Sunday in the week prior, New Zealanders spent just over $500,000 on flowers. However, this increased to $1,797,789 last weekend from the Friday to Sunday including Mother’s Day. 

The number of transactions carried out at florists (by volume) was also up 3.6 times the average for the same three days (Friday – Sunday) when compared to statistics for the weekend prior. The average spent on a bunch of flowers for Mum was around $51.00.

Simon Tong, Paymark CEO, says; “Despite the tougher times being faced by Kiwis at the moment we still care a great deal about our Mums, as we rightly should do.”

Paymark’s network processes three quarters of all electronic transactions and nearly 90% of Kiwis have a debit card. That puts us ahead of any other country in the world in terms of EFTPOS use.
