It's all about perception!

We are two artists exploring the ways we take ourselves and others at face value. Sometimes the wiring in our brain distorts our perception. It is these distortions we are exploring and illustrating in our artworks.

Billee Mutton is a textile artist using essentially this medium and exploring the perception of self image and the body. The mirrors in a fair ground attraction can distort the way we see ourselves, if our brain retains this impression, what happens? The issues of body beautification, alteration and cosmetic enhancement are impacting hugely on our society. Of particular concern is how this affects children.

Jane Bloxham also works in textiles and mixed media exploring the effects of dyslexia. Dyslexics describe how the letters can jump around the page, have difficulty in decoding language and are perceived to be slow learners. Jane attempts to mirror the confusion they must feel and to reflect the inherent free thinking and creativity they inevitably develop from a different perspective on the world.

Jane Bloxham and Billee Mutton are in the final year studying for a Bachelor of Applied Art (Visual Art) at Whitireia Polytechnic. Jane is also a high school technology teacher and Billee is a Wellington artist.
