2008 CoCA Anthony Harper Award for Contemporary Art
LawFuel - The Law Jobs and Legal NewsWire
Now in its 5th year the COCA Anthony Harper Award has achieved a level of public interest and quality hoped for when the idea to develop a national contemporary art award was first discussed.
This year's Award attracted over 500 entries, with a greater representation of works from Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. Public interest in the Award has been strong with an anticipated 7,000+ having attended throughout the exhibition period.
However, it was not just confirmation that the visibility of the Award had grown that was critical to its success this year, it was also the quality of the entries and the engaging range of ideas, methods and materials that made it such a highlight of COCA’s exhibition programme.
As 2008 judge Justin Paton commented, "one of the pleasures of looking at contemporary art is learning new and different visual languages".
