Golden girl voted New Zealand’s favourite Paralympian

Over the past 14 days, just under 35,000 Kiwis have voted for their favourite 2008 Paralympian to win a Mitsubishi Outlander VRX.

With just under 50% of all the votes, triple-gold medalist Sophie Pascoe is New Zealand’s favourite Paralympian and the proud owner of a brand new Outlander – New Zealand’s favourite SUV.

“Sophie is an inspirational young woman and the public recognition is testament to her brilliant achievements at the Games,” said Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand managing director John Leighton.

In four remarkable races, Sophie won gold in 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 200m medley and silver in 100m butterfly –bringing home four of the 12 medals won by the New Zealand team.

“International competition is a daunting experience and, at just 15, Sophie has stepped up to the challenge, maintaining her focus and displaying a maturity beyond her years. It’s a privilege to reward her effort with this great prize,” he said.

Simply by voting for her favourite Paralympian, Penny Hazard of Christchurch also won an identical Outlander for herself.

Mitsubishi’s support for Paralympics New Zealand and the New Zealand Olympic Committee will continue through to 2012 and includes the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Winter Olympics and Paralympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in London.
