Writer’s Room: In Conversation with Alan
Sharp
Script to Screen is delighted to announce that screenwriter Alan Sharp will kick off our 2009 Writer’s Room Series only days before the local release of the NZ/UK co-production of his latest screenplay Dean Spanley, directed by Toa Fraser and starring Peter O’Toole, Sam Neill, Jeremy Northam and Brian Brown.
Sharp, who
divides his time between New Zealand and Scotland, has
written for many years for both film and television. His
work includes American classics such as The Hired Hand,
directed by Peter Fonda, and Arthur Penn’s Night Moves,
Alan will talk with producer Philippa Campbell (Rubbings from a Live Man, Black Sheep, No. 2, Rain) about the process of adapting Dean Spanley from the 1936 novel by Lord Dunsany and writing a screenplay for the film that GQ characterized as ‘the Film of 2008’ and praised for its ability to be ‘both riotously funny and simply affecting.’
