Sail-World New Zealand: 6 March 2009

Plenty of white water action off Takapuna Beach Richard Gladwell
Welcome to Sail-World.Com's NZ newsletter for 6 March 2009

Gale force winds have been lashing top top half of the North island overnight, with one gust of 83kts being recorded at Cape Reinga (top point of NZ, for our international subscribers). For most of Auckland winds peaked at around 50kts in the afternoon. From our office overlooking Takapuna Beach we watched the boardsailers and kitesurfers performing all afternoon. Traffic hit a peak off Takapuna Beach, in the early evening, as the winds eased back to 40 plus knots, but with plenty of surf.

We caught one massive air jump (repeated at least once) by a kitesurfer and have the full photo sequence from launch to landing. click here to see the length and breadth of this feat for yourself. There are no photographic tricks to exaggerate the hieght or distance travelled.

Ned Wood, Manson Anchors - Auckland International Boat Show Colin Preston

What was good news for the surfers was not so great for the Auckland International Boat Show, with the wind presenting exhibitors with a few challenges. For those hunkered down in the Hauraki Gulf, days like yesterday are times when you need a good anchor. You can get the best advice on this subject from Ned Wood at Manson Marine. Besides anchors, Manson's manufacture a full range of marine engineering products - have a talk to Ned Wood about how they can help you with your next project.
