Ms Keeper Joins Metropolitan at Head of NZB Southern Filly Series
Ms Keeper produced a stellar sprint in the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes (1400m) at Oamaru on Saturday to join Metropolitan at the top of the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series leaderboard.
Bellalini (Bertolini x Rosa Bella by Prince Raider) stuck on well for second by a half-length with Bent (Align x I'm Tess by Oregon) sneaking up on the inside to secure third position at the line.
Trained by Peter and Dawn Williams the win was Ms Keeper's (Keeper x Hikutaia Special by Sir Sian) first on raceday, after placing on four occasions in her five other starts. She was purchased by her owner, Mr Anthony Stent of Wellington at the 2007 Karaka Festival Sale from her breeder, Ms Vicki Martin for NZ$20,000 and has now won NZ$37,850.
Cambridge Stud resident, Keeper (Danehill) is now the sire of eight stakes winners, five of them being fillies, including two Group 1 winners in Insouciant and Keepa Cruisin.
The third, and penultimate, race in the Series is the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton on the revised date of 4 April.
