Research shows Kiwi women's breasts are getting bigger... and so does practical experience
The recently released Bendon research about women and the increase in breast size is so true. We know this at Sonsie swimwear because the response to our swimwear for women with bigger breasts is overwhelming.
At Sonsie Swimwear we have an on-line only shop for women sized 10-18 who have bigger boobs. In general our product fits women who have a D to G cup. And we talk with women everyday who are so relieved to find a product that fits and flatters them.
As reported by Bendon, not only are women getting bigger but there is also a lot of confusion about what bra size they should wear. This problem gets worse as the breasts get bigger and sizing becomes more confusing. However ‘normal’ swimwear does not have lots of different cup sizes so Sonsie was determined to achieve this with the Sonsie range as well. The outcome is that there are only two sizes, Small (approx NZ 10-12) and Average (approx NZ 14-18). All the swimwear pieces are adjustable in fit and are based on a soft halter neck design that is more like that offered for smaller women but with extra coverage, a more supportive band that goes around the body, and a design that minimises the perceived size of the breasts.
Sonsie Swimwear is web-based, distributes from Wellington and is manufactured in Hawke’s Bay. Sonsie was started two years ago by business coach Maree Smith after years of frustration trying to buy swimwear that fits and flatters. “It was so obvious to me that it had to be a web-based business” Maree Smith said, “but many people consider it an unusual business model for swimwear.” A recent survey showed that only 15% of NZ exporting companies use the internet as a primary sales channel “but how else can we reach a world-wide population and keep our margins down.” Sonsie are currently working hard to take advantage of the change in the New Zealand dollar and are seeking to grow their overseas markets, particularly in Australia and the USA – the women there have the same figures!
