‘VODAFONE MTV AUSTRALIA AWARDS 2009’ – 10.30PM (NZ TIME)
AUCKLAND, TUESDAY, MARCH 17 2009 –New Zealand funny-man Rhys Darby and Australia’s favourite ‘girl next door’ Lara Bingle and will each take to the stage to present at the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009.
Rhys Darby has long been a popular fixture on the New Zealand comedy circuit, but in 2007 he became an international contender when he joined the hit TV show, Flight Of The Conchords. Since then Darby has landed a number of film roles, including his ‘scene stealing’ performance as Jim Carrey’s boss in the 2008 smash hit, Yes Man. Darby will represent New Zealand as he presents at the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009.
Lara Bingle took her leap into the spotlight as the quintessential ‘Aussie Beach Babe’ in the 2006 Tourism Australia campaign and has since become a regular on Australian TV. With Bingle now firmly a household name, it is only fitting that the Vodafone ambassador takes to the stage to present an award during MTV Australia’s night of nights.
Lara Bingle and Rhys Darby will join the growing list of talent at this years Awards including performers Jessica Mauboy, The Fray, The Killers, Kings Of Leon (via satellite) and Sia. Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz will host the show, while The Hills ‘It Girl’, Audrina Patridge, will host the ‘The Red Carpet At The Vodafone MTV Australia Awards’ along side MTV VJ’s Amber Peebles, Maz Compton, Darren Mc Mullen, Ruby Rose and special guest Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus.
Voting commenced on Monday February 23, 2009. Viewers can register and place their votes online at www.mtv.com.au/vodafonemtvawards, making them eligible to win a double pass to the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 every week until voting closes on Wednesday March 25, 2009. Users can also vote via SMS by texting ‘Vote’ to 191 MTV (688).
Voting commenced on Monday February 23, 2009. Viewers can register and place their votes online at www.mtv.com.au/vodafonemtvawards, with New Zealand viewers voting for the Best Kiwi award at www.mtv.co.nz until voting closes on Wednesday March 25, 2009.
The Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 will broadcast live from the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, on MTV New Zealand, Friday March 27, 9:30pm (NZ Time) Red Carpet, 10:30pm (NZ Time) main show.
