“Jesus boy I’m delighted to be here and to be challenging yet again for the World Push Ups title. Tis a long way from Ireland to New Zealand, but sure tis just brilliant to have a bit of summer in March”, said Daithi ‘the Dizzle’ O’Connor “Its even better to be here on Paddy’s day, but its down to business for us over the coming weeks. We will have to leave the St Pattack’s day drinking and celebrations to others as we‘ll be meeting the fans and training later that day. It’s now all about focus lad, focus. Right now I’m focused on my guns work.”

The ‘World Push Up Championships’ is taking place in the Establishment Bar, Courtenay Place, Wellington on the 28 March. The face off takes place on Tues 17th March, St Patrick's Day, in the Establishment. Speaking about the Push Up Championship Mr O’Connor said he was “training like a thoroughbred stallion waiting for the Melbourne Cup, I’m chomping at the bit I know I will win. I’ve been told that Kiwi men are the strong silent type, well boy I’ll make sure they stay silent on the 28th March. As for the Americans in the field, I know they are just full of hot-air”.

Leading women’s contestant Catherine ‘The Maniac’ Cotter said she was looking forward to getting to know the people of Wellington better and to understanding what makes Kiwis tick “I have always been fascinated by New Zealand sports stars, from the All Blacks to the silver ferns, they always perform with great passion, something I think New Zealanders and Irish people have in common. I’m sure their push up contestants will bring the same passions onto the stage on the 28 March”

The organiser of the World Push Up Championships Columba Cryan said that this year’s event promises to be truly spectacular. “It’s great to have a varied field of contestants for the championship and especially to have the defending champion Daithi 'The Dizzle' O'Connor back again. He has some serious competition, so the event promises to be bigger and better than ever before”

Mr Cryan encouraged the people of Wellington to come on down to the Establishment on Courtenay place on St Patrick’s Day to check out the contestants for themselves. All details of the World Push Up Championships are available at pushups.co.nz.
