Media Cup winner to earn a share of $10,000 cash for a Canterbury Charity

Media personalities will compete against each other in a Texas Hold’em Poker tournament at Christchurch Casino’s Diamond Bar on Friday March 27 to win a share of $10,000 cash for charity.

A Large contingent of media competitors will be whittled down to the final ten who will then be matched to one of ten Canterbury Charities before taking to the final table.

The winning charity will receive $5,000, second place $3,000 and third $2,000, while the winning media personality wins a seat in the New Zealand Poker Championships Main Event.

Christchurch Casino’s chief executive, Brett Anderson, is looking forward to hosting the 3rd annual Media Cup for Charity. “This is a great way to kick off the NZPC and help some great Canterbury causes. It’s always a great atmosphere and this year we’ll have a rather unusual way of celebrating our winner…watch this space!”

Mike King, one of the confirmed media personalities for the event, is keen to ‘face off’ against media rivals for the chance to raise funds for some well deserving people of Canterbury. “I like to think I know when to hold my cards, and I can tell you that at the media event, you’ll see that poker is the new Botox; lots of straight faces everywhere. The fact we are earning money for charity and having a bit of fun doing it is just brilliant!”

The ten Canterbury charities to be matched on the night with a media personality at the final table are Autlink Foundation, Canterbury Charity Hospital Trust, Canterbury Down Syndrome Association, Cholmondeley Children’s Home, Christchurch Children’s Holiday Camps Trust, Cystic Fibrosis Association, Diabetes Centre NZ – Christchurch, Life Education Trust – Christchurch, Lifeline Christchurch and Ronald McDonald House South Island.
