Hachem confirmed to compete at the home of New Zealand Poker

Christchurch Casino has confirmed international poker star, Tony Hachem, to play at the New Zealand Poker Championships March 27 – April 5 2009 at Christchurch Casino.

In the last twelve months, Hachem cashed in on the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas along with major Australian tournaments and can’t wait to come back to Christchurch to play in New Zealand’s premier poker event. He is looking to surpass last year and take down the title.

“The international poker tournaments are massive, but I always look forward to coming back here, it’s such an amazing event”, says Tony Hachem.

Hachem’s professional poker career was launched at the 2008 New Zealand Poker Championships where he was runner up and cashed in on $54,000.

“Tony’s second placing at last year’s New Zealand Poker Championships landed him a player sponsorship deal and launched him as a player in his own right – he’s finally come out of the shadow of his brother”, says Mick Ryan, Poker Manager at Christchurch Casino.

“We’re all looking forward to having Tony back to see how he puts his past year’s experience into play”, continues Ryan.

Hachem, an accountant by profession, moved with his family from Lebanon to Australia in 1972 where he now resides in Victoria. Older brother, Joe Hachem, is one of the world’s richest poker players.
