The Christchurch Casino Rally Team pairing of Matt Jansen and Jason Farmer have made an impressive start to their 2009 New Zealand Rally Championship campaign by taking out fifth overall and fourth in the premier group N competition on the weekend’s Rally Hawkes Bay.
The rally was the first time that Jansen and Farmer had competed in an event together and is a partnership that is, judging by the results, a successful one. “Jason and I really worked well in the car, we just really seemed to click.”
The opening day two stages saw Jansen push the Christchurch Casino Subaru Impreza into fifth place overall, surprising many with his astounding pace. The rest of the day saw Jansen continue a huge battle with fellow rookie Kingsley Thompson and Dean Sumner that Jansen finished in the middle of with sixth for the leg.
The second leg produced more consistent pace, Jansen only once set a stage time outside the top eight overall for the day. The good stage times combined with keeping out of trouble once again saw the team finish the leg in sixth place and an overall result for the rally of fifth, a fantastic debut in anyone’s books.
The team now sit fourth in the Group N four-wheel drive class and lead the points chase in both the junior series by 20 points and the rookie series by 19 points with maximum points from both.
The Christchurch Casino Rally Team would like to thank their sponsors Christchurch Casino, Mitech Welders, Pmtmotorsport, HGM Construction, Proflex Suspension, Straight Shipping and Dunlop Tyres.
