Bilingual Home Based Early Childhood Education
According to the 2006 census, 8,007 children aged 0 – 4 were identified as Chinese and over 800 0 – 4 years old speak Mandarin at home.
For new migrants, it is very important for them to learn more about the New Zealand system, and find ways to keeping the language alive is very important for many migrant families.
From 10 – 12 on 2nd May 2009, Settlement Support New Zealand – Auckland City, Auckland Regional Migrant Services and Mandarin Tree will be hosting a workshop on the New Zealand Early Childhood Education. What is it and how is it different to their home country? What are the different systems? What is Home-Based Early Childhood Service? What can parents do to keep the language alive?
Mandarin Tree is a Home-Based early childhood service that provides Bilingual (Mandarin and English) education for children between the age of 0-5. Each carefully screened educator can care for no more than 4 children at a time. This ensures each child receives individual attention to help achieve their family’s educational aspiration.
It provides a service that enables parents to be involved in their child’s education as we can communicate with them in their preferred language.
It also offers women the ability to earn money while caring for their child at home. Becoming a Home Educator can be the first step to future employment opportunities.
Mandarin Tree is licensed by the Ministry of Education and aim to support young children and their families in maintaining their original culture and adapt into the New Zealand Community. Families are also able to access WINZ and 20 hours Free ECE funding through Mandarin Tree.
