Emergency crews open the hangars
The Life Flight crew are inviting people to get up close and personal with them and their aircraft this Sunday as they throw the hangar doors open to the public.
Life Flight crewperson Dave Greenberg says, “We’re looking forward to meeting everyone and showing how we make a difference in their community.
“Sixteen people will even win a ride on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to get a first-hand experience of this life-saving machine!”
The open day runs from 10am till 2pm at the Lyall Bay side of Wellington Airport and includes demos from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, NZ Army Bomb Squad, NZ Customs Sniffer Dogs and Wellington Airport Fire Rescue. The Life Flight air ambulance will also be on display.
Spot prizes will be awarded to children dressed as their favourite emergency service.
The event kicks off a month of fundraising activities for the Westpac Chopper Appeal, a nationwide appeal which benefits all rescue helicopters, including Life Flight’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
People who can’t make the open day can donate by visiting www.lifeflight.org.nz or phoning (04) 387 9591.
