Service users at Downtown Community Ministry are
beating the cold away by getting active with a Leisure
Card.
The discount cards, produced by Wellington City Council, offer discounts to many recreational activities around the city.
Since December DCM has helped over 34 people apply for a card.
Interest is high in the cards because of the cheaper access they provide to sports and entertainment in the city.
Outreach Worker David Manuel says, “People love the discounts on DVDs and CDs at the library especially during the colder months and they also love going along to the pool and gym”.
“We do the sign up process the DCM offices take people’s photo. Two weeks after sending the application the card arrives.”
The cards are available to Wellington residents meeting certain criteria. More information can be found here
Project Margin Outreach Worker Kate Bell, also a coordinator of the Street Football practices, says the response has been encouraging.
“We’re glad people are using this opportunity to get out and about using healthy activities.”
