Photography Sell-Out deals to Credit Crunch
Media Release by Creative Exposure
If you think art is beyond your budget in these credit crunch times, the Auckland Festival of Photography has an event that is sure to prise open the tightest of wallets.
“Photography Sell-Out” at the Gus Fisher Gallery will see 17 of the country’s top photographers briefly disengage from the normal art market and sell 15 works for just $15 each. It is anticipated that a photography sell-out is inevitable.
Curator Craig Hilton says “This is a farcical price given the status of these artists and the prices that their work can sell for. To say that the combined draw of these artists will guarantee an interesting and well-attended evening may be an understatement.”
The artists are Mark Adams, Edith Amituanai, Fiona Amundsen, Harvey Benge, Conor Clarke, John Collie, Jennifer French, Darren Glass, Sam Hartnett, Rebecca Hobbs, Jae Hoon Lee, John Lyall, Ian Macdonald, Fiona Pardington, Haruhiko Sameshima, Ann Shelton, Shigeru Takato, and Ans Westra
There has been no direction for the artists other than they must sell 15 works for $15 each. This creates an economic problem for them and they are addressing this problem in very unique ways conceptually. Photography Sell-Out is an experiment of sorts where market place conditions are mimicked and established art market rules ignored.
Doors open at 6pm and buyers are simply asked to come armed with cash.
