Lion Foundation supports playground for all

Media release

The Lion Foundation supports Variety’s Auckland playground for all

Variety – The Children’s Charity is planning to open the country’s first inclusive, accessible playground later this year thanks to the support of The Lion Foundation.

The proposed new playground in Pt Chevalier’s Coyle Park will enable children to develop, explore and play together regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

The Lion Foundation Chief Executive Phil Holden says the charitable trust is proud to support the development of the unique playground.

“Kids love to play and every child should have equal access to good play opportunities.  This unique playground with its accessible play environment recognises each child is different, and its cool design, interactive elements coupled with specialist accessible equipment enabling everyone to play together, was really attractive to us from a funding perspective.”

Mr Holden adds: “The Lion Foundation is proud to support Variety and this innovative and iconic project.”

Lorraine Taylor, Variety’s Chief Executive says The Lion Foundation’s support is invaluable in the playground’s development.

“Variety is dedicated to improving the lives of children and thanks to generosity of The Lion Foundation, we will be able to make a significant difference for a number of children, their families and the community.”

Auckland City Council and CCS Disability Action are also key supporters of the playground, which will feature accessibility for parents with disabilities, mobility restrictions and grandparents who may be facing reduction in mobility or vision.

Operating for over 20 years and one of the country’s most widely respected community trusts, The Lion Foundation funds a wide range of arts, cultural, sporting, educational and health focused causes.  This approach has been in place for many years and is designed to ensure the charitable trust’s support reaches as many New Zealand communities as possible.
