Special Olympics Football Ribbon
Day
Bays Sport and Kerikeri AFC, was the venue for the
recent Special Olympics Northland Secondary Schools Football
Ribbon Day.
Eight teams from four schools from within the Northland region participated in a very enjoyable day which consisted of both football skills and matches.
Athletes of varying abilities participated in football skills, such as, goal scoring, dribbling and control of the ball.
With plenty of support from the sideline, it was wonderful to see these special athletes enjoying participation in sport and gaining a sense of achievement.
The students have been training hard for six weeks and it is a great reward to have a competition and receive a ribbon for all their hard work.
Thanks must go to the many supporters and volunteers, particularly the fantastic team of students from Kerikeri High, who helped make the day such a success. Also to Bays Sport, and Kerikeri AFC for providing the venue.
Leanne Gaddes who enjoys volunteering at these events said “a big thanks must go to Special Olympics NZ (Northland Region), for providing these special athletes with the opportunity to gain a sense of achievement and pride and for allowing them the chance to ‘shine’.
