The Big Idea Navigator Bulletin #26 - Thursday 16

The Big Idea Navigator Bulletin #26 - Thursday 16 July 2009

Auckland Theatre Company’s Lynne Cardy describes how her night out ‘amongst the vibrancy of young audiences’ in Wellington led to staging the Young and Hungry Festival in Auckland, and why working alongside willing professionals (in any art form) is a great way to learn.

“Because mentors were once young and hungry too, they know what you’re going through and they share your passion to keep on doing it.”

The Young and Hungry Festival of New Theatre has been part of the Wellington theatrical landscape for fifteen years. For the first time this year it is in Auckland and Wellington, at the same time. In each region the emerging theatre makers, mentored by professionals, will perform new works by playwrights Georgina Titheridge, Vivienne Plumb and Miria George.

TalkWrite: Renee Liang muses about the meaning of Bananas and the significance of this weekend's Banana Conference, an event which encourages dialogue between local Chinese and the wider community. She talks to writers Liu Shueng Wong and Alison Wong about the ideas behind such an event.

NZ International Film Festival: Watch a showreel of some of the local short films and animations from Homegrown ’09.
