“We feel privileged that for a number of years now Kiwi’s have chosen Hoyts cinemas in which to experience the vision of marvels like Tarantino, Spielberg and Coppola.” Say Hoogendoorn. “More than anything, this is about thanking the New Zealand public for their support and involvement over the years” .

Those about to turn a year older will have a great range of new release movies to choose from in August; From the director of The Notebook; My Sister’s Keeper, the action packed blockbuster G.I. Joe, the curious world of Coraline (also in 3D), and the hilarious new romantic comedy The Ugly Truth. Also due for release in the next year are James Cameron’s Avatar and Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland. Blockbuster sequels including the latest in the Twilight Saga: New Moon, Sex & the City 2, Shrek Forever After and Iron Man 2 will also hit the big screen.

The Hoyts story began when a dentist with a yearning for showbusiness rented a hall and began showing short movies on Saturday nights. From these humble beginnings grew a movie empire that spread to New Zealand boasting more than 350 screens in cinema complexes across Australasia with about 240 films playing at any time.
