Happy Meals on Gamble Free Day

Happy Meals on Gamble Free Day

21 August 2009

The Problem Gambling Foundation is helping you celebrate Gamble Free Day this year by offering a 10% discount when you dine out at participating restaurants.

The idea is to promote healthy activities for individuals and families to partake in instead of gambling.

35 restaurants in the Wellington region and 195 nationwide are supporting Gamble Free Day on September 1st.

All diners need to do is to present their discount voucher, available off the www.pgfnz.org.nz website, to restaurant staff when paying for their meal.

It’s estimated that everyday in New Zealand $5.5 million is lost on gambling.

Held annually on 1st September Gamble Free Day is a campaign raising the awareness of gambling harm in our community, promoting discussion and ways to seek help, and promoting healthy alternatives for people to participate in.

Gambling addiction and associated harms are known to affect several Downtown Community Ministry service users.

Director Stephanie McIntyre says, “Many clients name gambling as a key factor contributing towards homelessness and other issues such as crime and debt. Sadly, we suspect many other service users don’t feel able to admit their problem gambling behaviour.”

“We support the Problem Gambling Foundation’s work to educate about the harm gambling is doing in our communities.”
