Auckland Family Hit Jackpot After 22 Years

Media Release 8 October 2009

Auckland Family Hit The $6.7 Million Jackpot After 22 Years

An excited Auckland family visited NZ Lotteries’ Wellington office to claim their $6.7 million Big Wednesday prize package this afternoon, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

The close-knit family won on the same numbers they’ve been using since Lotto started 22 years ago. They purchased the lucky ticket at Amigo Paper Power and Lotto in Auckland.

“We were watching the live draw and that was when it hit and we couldn’t stop laughing and jumping around and it’s been like that ever since – we won’t have to worry about anything tomorrow, will we?” one family member said.

The family won a First Division prize package worth $6,482,271, consisting of $4,742,211 cash, a luxury Audi R8, a Porsche Cayenne, an American Express Platinum card loaded with $250,000, a $250,000 cash prize towards a luxury travel package, a Four Winns V258 boat, and $750,000 cash towards a bach.

They covered both heads and tails with their lucky numbers, so on top of the First Division fortune, they also won the Second Division prize of $275,093, taking their total winnings to a massive $6,757,364.

The winners, who do not wish to be identified, decided to take all the luxury First Division prizes in cash because an ‘Audi R8 on the front lawn would be a dead giveaway!’ they said.

The Auckland family are the fourth people to hit the Big Wednesday ‘big time’ this year, and they join the elite group of New Zealanders who are now living the ultimate lifestyle thanks to winning Big Wednesday First Division.

“It has certainly been a multi-millionaire dollar week at NZ Lotteries’ Wellington office, with the weekend’s Powerball winners claiming $22.4 million two days ago – this was the largest-ever Powerball prize won by a single ticket,” says Mr McLeay.
