91% of moms report using one or more forms of social media

Flemington, NJ, October 15, 2009 – A new media study among 300 female internet users who viewed an informational news clip on the recent popularity of blogging among mothers revealed that over a third (37%) of mothers (with children under the age of 18) use blogs and online forums for advice, product reviews and tips.

The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on October 13 to evaluate social media and blogging trends among female internet users, specifically looking at mothers with children under the age of 18. The most popular type of blogging among mothers are ones that offer advice, product reviews and tips (76% of mom bloggers say they partake in this type of blogging). Among blogging moms, 72% report utilizing personal blogs (personal commentary or online diary).

The study also revealed that 91% of mothers use one or more forms of social media. The most popular social media sites used by mothers include Facebook (80%) and MySpace (44%) while blogs and online forums come in third with 37% usage. 77% of self-declared coupon clipper moms say they receive their coupons and promotions through e-mail.

While viewing the video, participants indicated their levels of interest by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. The participants were also asked to respond to post-viewing questions.
