Music Festival - City Showcase To Come To NZ?

October 16 2009

City Showcase Festival organiser arrives in NZ to check out suitable city venues.

The music event that helped to launch the careers of superstars Amy Winehouse, Razorlight and Keane could be on the way to Godzone.

City Showcase Festival organiser Nanette Rigg is flying into Auckland from London on Wednesday October 14th to ascertain whether NZ could be the first country to host the music festival outside of the UK.

The festival is aimed at promoting new musical talent and could involve a Kiwi or Australian winner scoring a trip to play City Showcase in London in May 2010.

Organisers are believed to be looking at Auckland, Napier and Wellington as prospective spots to hold the three day event which would emulate the London City Showcase.

In London, bands and singer/songwriters are selected to play at gigs across London's West End including outdoor venues and daytime gigs in retail venues in the iconic Carnaby Street. The gigs give all performers the chance to be heard by the public, music industry leaders and record producers.

It's believed Toronto and Paris have expressed an interest in also hosting a City Showcase. However support for New Zealand music on the international scene has risen to such an extent that it's rumoured the UK festival would be better aligned with a NZ festival.
