Varied Classes For Teretonga

Varied Classes For Teretonga

The second race meeting of the new season at Teretonga Park on Sunday features a varied line up of machinery.

A mix of saloons, sports and racing cars plus motorcycles will ensure that almost everyone is catered for.

The Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloon races feature some exciting combinations with Andrew Cundall in his turbocharged Toyota Levin, Robert Ralston in his Nissan Silvia Turbo and Pierre Neame in his 5.8 litre Ford Capri among the fastest in the field. Rick Michels will make an appearance in his Group A BMW M3 while an interesting mix of machinery will be nipping at their heels. Shane Crosbie will have his turbocharged Toyota Starlet on hand while Brent Cross of Winton will be at the wheel of his Mitsubishi EVO. Add in Walter Willmott and Mark Quertier in two of the rapid, Falcon Star Cars - basically a scaled down model of a V8 Supercar and again the Clubmans Saloon action should be intense.

There may only be a small field for the Sports & Racing Car events but the racing promises to be close. Don Nelson, Trevor Earley and Dave McKenzie are all equipped with Reynard FF2000 cars while John Stevenson of Queenstown and Irishman Paul McCulla have both entered Formula Fords with 1600cc powerplants. Louise Clearwater of Invercargill will drive the only sports car in the field, a Furore III.

The motorcycles provide a good grid on the only day of the season that the 2-wheel and 4-wheel racing machinery share the Teretonga Park circuit. John Beck on his Suzuki GSXR600, Jeremy Holmes on his Honda CBR600, Stewart Smart (Yamaha) and Shane Livingstone (Suzuki GSXR 1000) should all be to the fore.

The action commences at 10.30am on Sunday morning. Admission is just $10 while children under 14 are free.
