1am Instant Kiwi Scratch Has Auckland Family In Tears

An Auckland great-great grandmother who tried to alleviate her insomnia by scratching a $5 Jumbo Crossword Tropical Instant Kiwi ticket at 1am, found herself awake all night when the ticket showed she had won $100,000.

The great-great grandmother was sure she had made a mistake due the late hour of her scratching the ticket and woke her husband up to get him to check the ticket.

“My husband checked it over and said he thought I’d won $100,000 but we couldn’t really believe it and thought it was best to go to the Lotto shop the next day and confirm it.”

“I didn’t sleep a wink thinking about winning all that money and when we took it to Foodtown New Lynn the next day I was in a bit of a daze.”

“We told our family and they were in tears for us saying that we really deserved it,” says the winner.

“We decided to go out for a nice meal and when my son rang from Melbourne he asked if we’d gone to a fancy restaurant and then laughed when I told him we’d gone to the local RSA,” she says.

The winner says they will invest some of the money and put the rest towards retirement.

There is one top prize of $100,000 remaining on the Jumbo Crossword Tropical ticket.
