On the Hunt for More Volunteers

On the Hunt for More Volunteers

Dunedin (Friday, 27 November, 2009) – The Dunedin ACC New Zealand Masters Games is on the hunt for volunteers.

A meeting at 6.30pm on Thursday, 3 December at the Sir Clifford Skeggs Gallery will give all volunteers an overview of the 2010 Games programme and how they can help out.

Volunteers can spend as much time as they can spare at the Games, from 30 January to 7 February, and come from all walks of life and all ages.

“It’s a great thing for teenagers and young people to be involved in as it’s a lot of fun,” ACC New Zealand Masters Games Manager Aaron Joy said.

Also at the meeting will be the announcement of the new volunteer co-ordinator.

“We are very excited about having this person on board and we’re keeping it under wraps who it is until the volunteers meeting,” Mr Joy said.

“The person will give the Games a new focus and bring new ideas.”

Early Bird registrations for competitors close at 5pm on Monday, 30 November, and Mr Joy “can’t make a call” how many entries will be in by then.

Early Bird offers $20 off registrations.

“We’re currently close to 3000 registrations so we’re on track to get the hoped for 7000 people at the Games,” Mr Joy said. “But who knows what it will be by the end of Monday.

“Standing out is netball and soccer. We have 83 netball teams and 53 soccer teams entered to date which are the number we usually end up with.

“Both sports are now hoping to have record number of team entries which will make for an exciting competition.”

Team entries close on 9 January.
