Ruby Frost wins 42Unheard!

Auckland, 14 December – Ruby Frost won the inaugural MTV 42Unheard competition on Friday night, taking home what has been called the “biggest prize in New Zealand music history”.

The songbird was whittled down from 357 contestants, and went through two rounds – getting picked by judges for the Top 20 then voted by members of the public – to perform as a Top 6 contestant in the Finals on Friday night.

She won the Grand Prize which includes a recording deal with Universal Music, funding for a music video, and two trips to the U.S. to perform at the SXSW and CMJ music festivals next year.

Frost says, “It was completely overwhelming running onto stage after hearing that I’d won! This is a dream come true, and the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Ruby Frost sang two synth-laden tracks with her two piece backing band, and delivered the set in a sequin batwing dress. She signed to Parachute Music artist management earlier in 2009, and has spent the year presenting on TV2’s ‘The Erin Simpson Show’ as Music Reporter.

“A key focus now is releasing my first single, and writing new material for a full release later next year. I can’t wait to get the ball rolling,” she adds.

The judges panel included Universal Music’s Scott McLaughlin, Gin Wigmore and Blindspott’s Shelton Woolright.
