Nelson Mail Teddy Bears' Picnic
Nelson Mail Teddy Bears' Picnic
If you go down in the woods at Isel Park on Sunday – you’re sure of a big surprise. It’s party time again for Nelson’s teddy bears.
Coordinator Jane Merryfisher says the traditional ‘country fair’ atmosphere is part of the enduring success of the event.
“Something as simple as a sand saucer can unlock old memories for mums and dads,” she says. “Many things have changed in our modern world, but the same things still give pleasure to little children.”
Take a step back in time under the shady trees at Isel Park as the annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic rolls out the time honoured entertainments: decorate a sand saucer, wrap teddy in a stylish scarf or sarong, view the exploits of bears past in the Teddy Museum, pull on the rope in the tug of war, jump in a sack-race, see the world from the tiny tots ferris wheel or relax with a Devonshire tea.
We’ve bearly started! Bring a picnic on Sunday 17 Jan, 12 - 2.30pm, Isel Park, Stoke
The Nelson Mail Teddy Bears’ Picnic is a Summer in Nelson event, produced by the Nelson City Council as a celebration for locals and an attraction for visitors.
