Waitakere Sounds rocks first on Waitangi Day
Waitangi Day Out West has become the Waitakere Sounds’ free music in parks annual season launch concert. On Saturday 6 February Henderson Park will be rocking with a line up headed by two 2009 chart regulars, Midnight Youth and Dane Rumble, in the first of four very different family-friendly events being staged in Waitakere City parks.
Midnight Youth claimed 2009 NZ Music Awards for
Best Group and Best Rock Album, and have been the summer’s
stand out local stadium act. Having tasted chart success
with hip hoppers Fast Crew, Dane Rumble blitzed our Top 40
all last year with a string of catchy singles – it seems
like he’s always been here.
Performing alongside these
two leading acts at Henderson Park (behind Corbans Estate)
between 1 and 5pm on Waitangi Day will be West Auckland's
own fast-rising funk/reggae 5-piece Soljah, plus impressive
newcomers Mystery Liquid.
The three other

musical tastes from Motown smooth to the keen edge of local
hip hop. Also at Henderson Park, Hip Hop Lives Here will
see our own grand master King Kapisi topping the bill on
Sunday 21 February (2-4pm). Lotto front man Russell
Harrison and his band will provide a memorable afternoon of
Motown hits at Luckens Reserve on Sunday 14 March
(3-6pm), and the season finale will be an all-star DJ Beach
Party at the Piha Domain on the afternoon of Sunday 21
March.
Programmes are available at Waitakere City Council offices, libraries, leisure centres etc. or for more info online visit www.waitakeresounds.co.nz
