The award-winning and side-splitting documentary profile of the world's only comedic, singing, dancing, lesbian twin sisters tops the bill for the 2010 season of Movies In Parks, starting Wednesday, 10 February, from 7.30pm.
The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls screens at Mt Eden’s Takahi Reserve. The film is the first in a programme of 12 movies screening midweek across four Auckland parks - Tahaki Reserve, Glover Park, Grey Lynn Park and Owairaka Park.
The free outdoor event is Auckland’s annual celebration of New Zealand achievement in cinema, with a host of Kiwi themed flicks. Titles this year include Dean Spanley, Show Of Hands, Rain of the Children, Separation City, classic Goodbye Pork Pie, and State of Play, featuring award-winning Kiwi actor Russell Crowe.
“These warm summer evenings are the perfect time to sit back in some of Auckland’s stunning parks and reserves and watch some homegrown cinematic gems,” says Councillor Greg Moyle, chairperson of the of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee. “Music In Parks has become a popular institution in Auckland’s summer events calendar, and 2010 is no exception.”
Each screening opens with performances by some of Auckland’s hottest up-and-coming bands such as indie pop group Collapsing Cities, touted as one of UK publication NME's 'top ten hopes of the near future'; reggae six-piece Sons of Zion; and folk-pop group The Broken Heartbreakers.
Bring your blanket, some nibbles and enjoy the cinema. The entertainment begins at 7.30pm
