TV Guide Nominees For People’s Choice Awards

TV Guide Announces Nominees For Best On The Box People’s Choice Awards

Can sassy Robyn Malcolm hold onto her title as sexiest woman for the third year running in this year’s TV Guide Best on the Box People’s Choice Awards?

The Outrageous Fortune star, who admits she’s most comfortable in a t-shirt, jandals and no makeup, has taken out the Sexiest Woman title for the past two years in the country’s largest people’s choice television awards.

Now it’s up to the viewing public to decide if Robyn Malcolm can make it three in row.

“The definition of sexiness is always evolving with 40-something actresses around the world now making their mark,” says TV Guide editor Julie Eley. “Wisdom, a sense of humour and life experience are qualities people find attractive and can see more mature women beat women half their age in the sexiness stakes.”

Joining Robyn Malcolm in the Sexiest Woman category are Petra Bagust (What’s Really In Our Food?), Hayley Holt (Top Town), Anna Hutchison (Go Girls), Faye Smythe (Shortland Street) and Breakfast host Pippa Wetzell.

Making a return to the Sexiest Man category after a break last year, is TV ONE’s Paul Henry, who is also nominated for Best Current Affairs Presenter. Eley says the opinionated television presenter will probably be chuffed to be recognised for both his sexiness and interviewing skills.

“I suppose you could say he’s the complete package - quick-witted, smart, a sharp dresser, plus a feisty interviewer who can get to the heart of a story.

“Love him or hate him, Paul Henry has a certain something that appeals to a lot of our readers,” Eley says.

Paul Henry’s up against TV ONE news presenter Simon Dallow, who is also nominated for Best News Presenter, Shortland Street hunks Robbie Magasiva and Adam Rickitt, Brendon Pongia (Good Morning) and last year’s Sexiest Man winner, Antony Starr (Outrageous Fortune).

After cutting back on his TV and radio commitments, Paul Holmes’ skill and experience as a television presenter are again being recognised with his nomination as Best Current Affairs Presenter for TV ONE’s Q&A.

“Paul is a fantastic broadcaster and his nomination this year recognises that,” Eley says.

Also nominated this year is Keisha Castle-Hughes for Best Actress for her role in the TV ONE drama, Piece Of My Heart, and comedian Rhys Darby who is nominated for Funniest Person on TV for fronting C4’s Rock the Nation 2: 100 NZ Pop Culture Stories.

All voters will go into the draw to win one of five MySky HDi units valued at $1738 each and a 12-month subscription to SKY. Voters will also have the opportunity for the first time, to vote for their favourite SKY channel on the voting form.

Voting forms will be published in the February 11 and 18 issues of the TV Guide. To vote online, visit www.tv-guide.co.nz/botb. Winners in each of the 24 categories will be announced in the March 18 issue of the magazine.

Voting closes on March 5 at 5pm.
