Visiting Samoan Children get to meet their
Heroes
The two Samoan school children,
Lyla Tapusoa and Ryan Simpson, who won a British High
Commission writing competition to follow the Hurricanes got
to meet their heroes in Wellington yesterday.
Lyla and Ryan aged 10 and 11, talked to the Hurricanes, at their training run in Newtown .Armed with the latest Hurricanes poster, so new that even some of the players had not seen it, they collected autographs and posed with players for photos.
Ryan said he was really impressed with Cory Jane, the Hurricanes and All Blacks back .” He was really fast and taller then I thought .”
This morning, they are in the privileged position of attending the Captains run at the Westpac stadium and they will go to a public barbecue between New Zealand’s A league contenders the Phoenix and the Hurricanes.
While the afternoon sees them visiting Zealandia. Here they will be given a special tour of the sanctuary with educator, Brian Ireland and Karl Vasau. Karl has been conducting research into comparisons between the biodiversity of the Pacific Islands and that of New Zealand.
To win, Ryan wrote about playing rugby for Britain against Argentina in the World Cup and Lyla wrote about facing Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon.
