Big Weekend for Wellington Sport
Big Weekend for Wellington Sport
Following the success of the International Sevens earlier this month, this weekend will keep Wellington Sports fans on their toes. The Hurricanes first home game of the season at the best stadium in NZ on Saturday night provides an opportunity for sports fans to see the ‘Canes’ give the Perth visitors a beating with home town hero Rodney So’oialo in the squad.
The rise of the Footballing Phoenix provides an opportunity for Wellington to go 2 up against teams from West Australia in the same weekend with a match against Perth Glory on Sunday at 5pm. The Westpac Stadium will again show its versatility with the ground being transformed over night to cover two codes. In between all the watching Wellingtonians can get out and ‘Push Play’ with the iconic
Pelorus Round the Bays Fun Run/Walk and New Balance Half Marathon taking place on Sunday morning starting at Frank Kitts Park and finishing at Kilbirnie Park. Caroline Kidston, Sport Wellington's Event and Marketing Manager, is expecting in excess of 10,000 participants in Sunday’s event. “Registrations have been streaming in in recent days and with a good weather forecast for Sunday we are expecting big numbers” says Kidston.
The chance of winning a trip to Melbourne courtesy of a Dominion Post promotion has added much interest to this year’s event. The Pelorus Trust supported event starts at 9.20am with the Half Marathon underway at 8.30am.
