The second annual Animates Giving Trees fundraiser captured the hearts of shoppers throughout the country, whose generosity helped to raise over $50,000 for the SPCA.

During the months of November and December, Animates provided pet-lovers nationwide with the opportunity to make a small donation to the SPCA, in return for a decoration to trim one of their special Giving Trees.

“The response was amazing,” says Animates marketing manager, Brenda Caseley. “Together with our local communities, we were able to raise $52,314. The Giving Trees fundraiser was so successful in its first year that we are thrilled to be able to organise the initiative again for the Christmas just been – and we have beaten the 2008 amount well and truly. It goes to show the strong community support for such an important cause.”

Auckland SPCA executive director, Bob Kerridge, is delighted with the increased funds raised by Animates from their Giving Trees. “The overwhelming generosity of New Zealanders who open their hearts to the animals at Christmas time has once again proven to be a wonderful and humbling experience,” said Bob Kerridge. “Without their support, the SPCA would find it very difficult to cater to the needs of so many animals who flood into their shelters at this time of the year.”

“So, on their behalf, we send our heartfelt thanks, as well as to Animates stores throughout the country who have so enthusiastically supported the Giving Tree campaign.”

All funds raised go directly to the thousands of animals taken in by SPCA shelters throughout the country, with the funds allocated to the areas where Animates stores are based, including Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Lower Hutt, Wellington and Christchurch.
