Linwood College Gala Concert to be held at the Isaac Theatre Royal
An evening celebrating past
and present musical talent from Linwood College
Past
and present musical talent from Linwood College are to
perform a gala concert on 31 March 2010 to raise funds for
the school orchestra which is travelling to England and
France in 2011.
The concert line up includes virtuoso violinist Fiona Pears, international opera singer Rodney Macann, local jazz vocalist Courtenay Washington and jazz legend Stu Buchanan who will be supported by performances from current and former Linwood pupils.
The 2011 Orchestra Tour will be representing Christchurch City through the annual Sister City exchange with Twynham School in Christchurch, England. Linwood College has been taking part in this exchange since 1998. In previous years a group of around 20 students has travelled. The 2010 tour will see over 60 students and teachers taking part in a comprehensive programme including performances in London, France and Christchurch (UK). Other activities on the tour include visits to museums, galleries as well as a short stint in France visiting the war graves of our fallen soldiers and key areas where New Zealanders fought in both wars.
“This exchange has been a wonderful success for both schools and those students that have taken part,” said Linwood Principal Rob Burrough. “Not only does it provide wonderful learning opportunities, it also has seen long term friendships form on opposite sides of the world – something that can only benefit both cities”.
Event Manager Katie Martin says, “We have had incredible support for the concert but the icing on the cake will be getting as many people to attend as possible. It will be a fantastic night for music lovers with a diverse range of quality performances.”
