Damien Binder returns to Auckland for one off show

Damien Binder, Miriam Clancy & Kurt Shanks To Play One Auckland Show

NZ singer-songwriter Damien Binder returns to Auckland for one off show Saturday 22 May with Miriam Clancy and Kurt Shanks at Juice Bar at the Windsor Castle, Parnell.

Since his last album Til Now in 2004 Damien has been living and performing in Sydney, Australia releasing his third solo effort “While The Wind’s At Your Back” in November last year.

As well as completing a highly successful launch of the new album in Sydney, Damien has been touring, receiving warm responses for shows in both Melbourne and Perth. Those who attended his Auckland show late last year were treated to a dramatic set which featured some remarkable new songs and classic cuts from previous albums.

The new record has drawn some high praise too. Graham Reid (elsewhere.co.nz, NZ Herald) said, “Binder has his own voice and a post-pop/songwriter style…he certainly hasn't betrayed his ability to pull out a memorable hook, an ascending/descending vocal line imbued with heartfelt melancholy, and songs propelled by strong power-pop tendencies”.

Since returning to Sydney Damien has had some steady airplay with his new single “Take Me Under” and will be showcasing this and other songs from the album with his close band of long time collaborators and producers including Bob Shepheard and Steve Garden.

Joining Damien on May 22 is Miram Clancy and her band. Says Binder: “I heard one song last year, bought her album and think she is total class act…I also thought our songwriting styles were well suited so I contacted her and asked if she wanted to play a show together”.

Opening the evening’s show is Kurt Shanks (of chart topping NZ band Stellar*), who is this month recording his debut solo album at Roundhead. Binder says: “I’m looking forward to his new stuff, it’ll be the first time I’ll hear it. He’s been very quietly working away on it, the dark horse”.

The show kicks off around 8pm with door sales only.
