Lucky Paint Purchase Leads To Trip Of A Lifetime

Two lucky Palmerston North residents will be winging their way to Britain on a $16,000 trip of a lifetime, thanks to a recent nationwide promotion held by Mitre 10 and Mitre 10 MEGA stores and British Paints.

Palmerston North resident Graham Campbell couldn’t believe his luck when he received a phone call to say that he had won a $16,000 trip of a lifetime to Britain.

“I was in shock, ” said the 53 year old construction and project worker when he heard that he had won the major prize of a trip to two to Britain in Mitre 10’s British Paints ‘Best of British’ competition.

“It’s the best news that I’ve received in a long time. I haven’t even had a holiday for six years.”

Graham was crowned the winner of the competition after he texted in the winning code from the competition scratch card he received when he purchased 30L of British Paints from Mitre 10 MEGA Palmerston North during the ‘Best of British’ promotion.

Graham helps his brother in law, a builder, to renovate houses and together they have done up around 50 homes. Their latest project involved the renovation of 160 rooms of student accommodation in Palmerston North.

Graham says he never expected to win such a fabulous trip.

“I am not renowned for my luck. The building business has been so tough for the past four years that I have been buying Lotto tickets to try and turn my luck around. But the only thing I won was a free Lotto ticket.”

Although wife Melanie is determined to see London from the London Eye, and also to take in the Tate Modern art gallery, former Londoner Graham, who has lived in New Zealand for the past 39 years, wants “to tick a few more boxes.” On their prize winning trip to the UK which they hope to take this Christmas, Graham plans to also visit Iceland, “I want to see the volcanoes, the ice and the snow”, and then to nip over to Russia.

The ‘Best of British’ promotion, a joint initiative of British Paints, Mitre 10 and Mitre 10 MEGA, was run from March 1 to April 5 to celebrate British Paints now being available exclusively through Mitre 10 and Mitre 10 MEGA retailers.

As well as the major prize of a trip to two to Britain, consumers also had the chance to instantly win Black & Decker appliances, painting accessories and British memorabilia, with thousands of prizes given away.

British Paints spokesperson, Shelley Reynolds, said the company wanted to do something “big” to celebrate British Paints signing an exclusive arrangement with Mitre10 and Mitre 10 MEGA to stock the range of quality paint products.

“We wanted consumers to help us celebrate this exciting development, and we thought what better way to mark the beginning of our exclusive relationship with Mitre 10 than to launch a major consumer competition.”

She said the company was thrilled with the success and positive consumer response towards what was one of the biggest ever consumer promotions run for British Paints.

The promotion drew widespread national interest, with over 2,000 consumers throughout the country entering the draw to win a trip for two to Britain.
