The Food Show Blows Through Wellington

MEDIA RELEASE 21 MAY 2010

The Food Show Blows Through Wellington

Thousands of foodies flocked to The Food Show Wellington to watch the who’s who of the food world and to sip and sample the vast array of food and drink on offer.

With attendance at this year’s show similar to last year’s total of nearly 20,00 people, the show’s organisers said the turnout was impressive.

“The Food Show Wellington is a three-day exhibition that has become a firm ‘must-attend’ event on every food lover’s calendar,” says Rebecca Stewart, general manager of North Port Events.

Two of the biggest draw cards this year were MasterChef New Zealand winner Brett McGregor and runner-up Kelly Young, who delighted the huge crowds who turned out to see them, with fun-filled cooking demonstrations. “Brett and Kelly were incredibly popular with the crowd this year. Not only are they both talented cooks, who enjoy sharing their love of cooking with people, they have shown by practicing and being passionate about food, anyone can be great in the kitchen,” says Stewart.

The Electrolux Cooking Theatre was packed to the rafters as New Zealand’s top chefs wowed the audiences with recipes that ranged from meal ideas that don’t cost a fortune to more decadent dishes using porcini and pinot. “Again, our chefs were outstanding. The cooking demonstrations are always very popular as it allows people to watch and pick up new tips and techniques from the professionals. This only adds to people’s enjoyment of Show,” says Stewart.

But it’s not all about the cooking demonstrations – the real attraction is the 200 exhibitors eager for people to try and buy their tasty products. “The Food Show wouldn’t be what it is without the talented, passionate and dedicated food and beverage producers who make the show what it is. It’s a chance for them to showcase and introduce a captive and engaged audience to what they have to offer,” says Stewart.

The Food Show Auckland will be at the ASB Showgrounds from 29 July – 1 August 2010
