Countdown to Out Takes Opening Night

There’s only a week to go to the Opening Night Extravaganza of the Out Takes Reel Queer Film Festival and tickets are selling fast.

Promising entertainment, prizes and flirting opportunities galore, Thursday 3rd June will surely be a major highlight of the year’s gay social calendar!

The night kicks off bang at 7pm with the popping of complimentary bubbly and salacious snacks, before its into the auditorium to be entertained by all-gay choir, the Homophones – oh and of course the amazing feature film, An Englishman in New York. John Hurt reprises the role that made him famous role, Quentin Crisp, to see whatever happened to the Naked Civil Servant after his 1970s sitcom. It’s witty, it’s colourful, it’s emotional. Come see it!

Chief programmer for the Out Takes Reel Queer Film Festival, Simon Fulton says this year’s festival line-up will astound even the most avid cinema goer.

“An Englishman in New York is a great quality film to toast the start of the festival and set the bar for the rest of the week. This year’s selection is fantastically varied and we’re pleased to be showcasing local talent as well,” says Simon.

The festival features the world premiere of a brand new documentary on the Rocky Horror Picture Show story made by Waikato filmmaker Fiona Jackson. An Evening with Richard O’Brien will have the audience in stitches. Local filmmaker Christopher Banks returns with his latest award-winning short film Communication, and former Wellingtonian Kylie Plunkett has done amazing things in Melbourne by making the slick short film, Evelyn Everyone starring another member of the Wellington acting elite, Loren Horsley.

“We’re also very pleased to host Los Angeles comedian and filmmaker, Lauren Palmigiano and her hilarious short film Cried Suicide fresh from New York and Santa Cruz film festivals. She will add an international element to a week that is already a great celebration of queer cinema and the people that support them,” says Simon Fulton.
