Pacifist Warfare rules the day

Fifth Waikato Dragoons Theatre Workshop
- Pacifist Warfare rules the day!

“Are People Around You taking Life Too Seriously?” is the question posed by the Queen’s Birthday Weekend Pacifist Warfare Theatre Workshop, an opportunity for those of an adventurously theatrical turn of mind to try their hand at this unique form of theatre on Saturday June 5. Participants will be given basic training in vital skills for the Pacifist battler, including rolling paper swords – yes, really - packing flour-bombs, marching and dying gallantly on the field of battle – preferably with much dramatic writhing. And to cap it all at 1:30 pm - 1330 hours in old money - they will get to take part in the first of three battles scheduled for the weekend’s eighth annual Queen’s Birthday Campaign.

A fine opportunity to meet new people, eyeball-to-eyeball in a Creative Maelstrom of Performance Art combining Theatre Sports, Cowboys & Indians, Bull-rush, the Charge of the Light Brigade and Improvisational Theatre, in that most Gloriously Extravagant Visual Spectacle better known as Pacifist Warfare!

Ralph Evans (aka Major Blunder), president and one of the Founder Members of the Fifth Waikato Dragoons who are organising this event said, “this is a uniquely Kiwi Spectacle, very much a case of adults at play, with minimal barriers to participation. And yes, ladies or gentlemen, no gender bias at play here.”

“We prefer participants to be adults, but set a minimum age of 14 years. There is nothing quite like standing to receive your first charge, or thundering off in a long line headed for the foe. Marvellous fun.”

To register call (07) 855-3851 8am-9pm, cost $5. Late registrations ($7) can be made on the day at the venue, Frankton Scout Hall, 77 Norton Rd, Hamilton.

“Many thanks are due to Creative Communities NZ and Hamilton Community Arts Council for their support of this event, making it possible to reach a wider pool of participants,” said Ralph.
