World Cup Message from the G-G
World Cup Message from the G-G
Greetings, Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Fakalofa Lahi Atu, Taloha Ni.
Not once, but twice! It is with great pleasure that I again send my congratulations to the New Zealand Football team competing in South Africa for their ongoing achievements in the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
The draw against Slovakia that saw New Zealand gain its first ever World Cup point was an excellent outcome for the All Whites. For the team to then hold Italy to a one-all draw has rightly drawn national and international praise for the New Zealand team.
The All Whites have shown nothing less than downright grit of the highest calibre to deny the reigning World Cup champions what many international commentators had presumed would be an easy win for them.
Past scores count for nothing when a new game begins and the Kiwi footballers have displayed skill and steely determination that belies their world ranking. Tough challenges await but as the classic Crowded House song goes: “Don’t dream it’s over.”
As Governor-General and Patron of New Zealand Football, I again congratulate coach Ricki Herbert, captain Ryan Nelsen and all the members of the All Whites squad.
No reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, kia ora, kia kaha, tēnā koutou katoa.
Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, GNZM,
QSO
Governor-General of New Zealand and Patron of New
Zealand Football
