Boy Enters Parliament
The New Zealand Film Commission is delighted that Youth Parliamentarians will get the opportunity to learn from the experiences of Taika Waititi, writer and director of New Zealand box office hit Boy, during this year’s Youth Parliament.
Held every three years since 1994, Youth Parliament is a chance for young Kiwis to influence public decision-making and learn more about New Zealand’s democracy.
Waititi, along with along 2010 Young New Zealander of the Year, Divya Dahar will be participating in a panel discussion led by Minister for Youth Affairs Paula Bennett.
"This is a chance for the Youth MPs to mix with emerging leaders from a range of fields,” says Minister Bennett
“Youth Parliament offers a unique opportunity for young people to step up and challenge themselves, their peers and a few older politicians," she said.
The panel discussions will focus on building leadership confidence and provide an opportunity for reflection on the different types of leaders and how they have navigated their journeys.
Boy - financed by the NZ Film Fund, NZ Film Commission, Unison Films, NZ On Air, Maori Television Service and Te Mangai Paho - has also been selected to screen as part of the programme for this year’s Youth Parliament.
