Crafty fashion a hit with judges
Multi award-winning Tauranga designer Debra Laraman has picked up another of New Zealand’s top design awards to add to her burgeoning collection.
Debra’s passion for hand-craft inspired fashion pieces has seen her scoop the SIT Knitted Award at the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards on 31st July.
Now in its 22nd year the Hokonui Awards attract designers from throughout New Zealand and overseas. The judging panel consists of the biggest names in New Zealand fashion, including Denise L`Estrange of ‘World’, Theresa Brady of ‘Doosh’, Auckland's Adrian Hailwood of ‘Hailwood’ and Anjali Stewart of ‘Twenty Seven Names’.
No stranger to the winners’ podium, Debra is Group Leader – Design, at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic. Over the last six years alone Debra and her inspired fashion design team of tutors and students have caused a storm at the annual Westfield Pasifika Awards, picking up 11 category awards, a Supreme Award, as well as numerous runner-up awards. The talented group are looking forward to the 2011 competition in September.
