Refuge for actors needs help!

Refuge for actors needs help!

Whatever is going on in an actor’s life, wherever their career is at, regardless of how the last audition, play or project went,or even if they’ve just begun and don’t know where to start, they can always plug into a Wellington Actors Studio class, which allows them to continue growing, and to express that part of themselves that never dies.

Unfortunately, like many small creative businesses, running The Wellington Actors Studio is too much for one person to carry. The success and popularity of The Studio may be its downfall. It has grown into a business that needs to expand its staff and improve its systems to automate most of the daily responsibilities for founder and director, Barbara Woods to continue running and delivering the quality of service that the community has come to know.

It’s not just actors who benefit from the classes and other resources that The Studio provides. Many current and former students are also filmmakers, writers, dancers, singers, and people who want to connect to their creativity in a practical, challenging and liberating environment.

Some of her students have gone on to work in such film and television projects as The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, King Kong, Shortland Street, Outrageous Fortune, Burying Brian, Go Girls, Matariki, The Insiders Guide To Happiness,
The Water Horse and The Cult, This Is Not My Life and two new projects, Feedback and Pavlova Western. Students have also performed in numerous theatre productions, winning awards, receiving grants and creating their own film and
theatre projects.

The Wellington Actors Studio needs the support of the community in order to continue to exist and provide this unique and high calibre training. It is valuable to a city whose identity, economy, and national and international reputation is based on producing talent and works that punch above our weight.

This vibrant film and theatre community needs The Wellington Actors Studio as a place to educate, support, and inform actors from wide ranging backgrounds and abilities on a part-time basis.

A fund has been established, called the Save The Studio Fund, and students, current and former, are already donating to this cause. The wider public, either individuals or companies, are welcome to give assistance through donation or sponsorship, both financial or in kind. Go to https://www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/SaveTheStudio to donate or contact The Studio to arrange a meeting to discuss potential sponsorship opportunities.
