Great Night At Tsunami Appeal Concert
Friday 10 September at the Royal Wanganui Opera House was home to the Born and Raised Pasifika Tsunami Appeal concert. The idea was to raise as much money as they possibly could to send over to a school that has been affected by the devastating Tsumani back in 2009.
Still today the Wanganui community has gathered strongly to help support this cause.
The show was filled with children, teens adults alike who banded together to put on a spectacular show with smoke and lights!
The children were dressed in their cultural gear with the most beautiful colours singing songs that they had learned at Born and Raised Pasifika Early Childhood Centre.
Local schools, Rutherford, City College and High School were among some of the schools that participated in the 3 hour long concert.
Wanganui favourite and local celebrity Daniel Harding sang with his singing partner, Tj Timms as Royal Lightz and did two cover songs, The Climb and Simply the best. Mr Harding also sang two songs solo, Alexandra Burke’s Hallelujah and Hollie Smith’s Bathe in the river two songs that brought down the house. Comments came flying from around the room, “You’re my idol”!
A surprise from New Zealand’s youngest ever Mayoral Candidate, Jevan Goulter debuted his song – which I believe is called “Turn it up”? Who knew Jevan was a performer. But what happened next created the most noise of the night. Jevan handed the microphone to Daniel Harding and it was all over! You couldn’t hear anything but the screams coming from the audience. Daniel gave the song the edge it needed. Later on, I asked Daniel how he got to sing on Jevan’s track. He explained that he was sitting in the audience and Jevan came up to him and asked him to do it, out of the blue. They went into his truck listened to the track once – went on stage and tore it up.
A great night all round!
